From Grind to Growth: The Mindset Shift
Change isn’t about perfection—it’s about mindset. A fixed mindset ("I’m just not a morning person") keeps you stuck. A growth mindset ("I’m learning to wake up energized") sees challenges as opportunities. Episode 5 shows how adding play cuts the 400 repetitions needed for new habits to just 10–20 by boosting dopamine, making change fun and fast.
As a therapist, I’ve helped clients shift from "I always fail" to "I’m experimenting." I reframed my own burnout from "This is just who I am" to "I will lead a life I love." You can too.
A Look Into My Life: Playful Rituals
My growth mindset lifeline? Infusing play into everyday moments. I dance in the kitchen, jamming to my favorite playlist while cooking a healthy recipe for my family—it turns a chore into joy. When cleaning, I crank up a podcast or music, making the house sparkle while I vibe. As a wife and stepmom, these playful rituals keep me grounded and energized. Science says play releases dopamine which speeds habit formation.
What's your playful ritual? A quick dance break? A fun podcast while folding laundry? Make change fun to make it stick.
Fixed vs. Growth Mindset Examples
Procrastination: Fixed: "I’m terrible at deadlines." Growth: "I’m figuring out time management."
Morning Routine: Fixed: "I’m not a morning person." Growth: "I’m tweaking my wake-up routine."
Social Anxiety: Fixed: "I’m awkward." Growth: "I’m practicing one conversation at a time."
Your Day 5 Action Plan: Make Change Fun & Track It
Reframe with Growth Mindset (5 Minutes):
Reflect on your Day 4 tiny change (e.g., pausing before entering home).
Reframe struggles: "I’m not failing, I’m learning."
Ask: How can this be fun? (e.g., add music, involve a friend).
Add Play (Daily):
Example: Hate journaling? Doodle or record a voice memo.
Dread workouts? Try a dance class or nature walk with a podcast.
Turn tasks into games for dopamine hits.
Track Progress (2–3 Minutes):
Use a habit tracker (notebook, app, calendar).
Mark daily wins (e.g., star for waking 10 minutes earlier).
Log moods in How We Feel app (e.g., "excited" post-dance break).
Journal: Is it fun enough? Too big? Adjust to smaller/playful steps.
Pro Tip: Check progress weekly to stay motivated—each mark is a dopamine boost!
